Bella's Story

From the very beginning and first car journey from England to Scotland to her forever home, she cuddled and slept, settled and content amongst her new family.

As a puppy she was affectionate and playful and loved being in everyone’s company. Toilet training was tricky because she’s got diva tendencies and refused to go outside if it was raining. She’s now grown up and, although she can still be a diva, she knows to ring her bell at the back door to go outside for the toilet. Although, the bell brings with it other problems as she also rings it on a sunny day, when she wants to go out to bask in the sun. On those days where the sun comes and goes, those bells can be heard numerous times!

Making friends with the everyone

Unlike the stereotypical dog, Bella loves the postman! She gets a round of applause and lots of attention from the postman when he delivers the mail. She started barking at him when she first met him, trying to ward off the suspected intruder. But as soon as they were introduced, they became friends.

Bella is now two years old and a fully grown miniature smooth haired Dachshund, but still very small that she’s often mistaken for a puppy, all of which adds to her personality. She is special but boy, does she know it! As a puppy, Bella would watch her family eat then either pick at or refuse to eat her own meals. They were getting worried about her and thought she was ill. The vet suggested plain chicken and sweet potato as a nutritious meal that shouldn’t upset her tummy if she was feeling a bit iffy. She loved it! That was the beginning of Bella having a personal chef because from then on Bella has had food fit for a queen. She likes salmon, beef, lamb, chicken, sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables. The majority of her food is cooked in the air fryer, and she knows the sound of that ping! She loves to hide under blankets and snooze all morning but then she hears that ping, and her head pokes out of the blanket!

Dachshund friendly adventures

Bella’s favourite places to walk are in the woodlands, local nature reserves and country parks. She loves Dalzell Country Estate and Baron’s Haugh nature reserve. She loves to play in the leaves and is always on the lookout for the squirrels who she loves to chase. It’s like a Tom and Jerry episode where Tom never wins! Bella is not a fan of a walk on a normal path, she likes the countryside trails.

Bella also enjoys a day trip to different places and exploring with her family as she doesn’t like to get left behind. From beach days, holidays to boat trips and castle visits. It’s an exciting sign when she sees her Ginger Ted dog coats and jumpers, she knows she’ll be going out and about.

Essential items for a Dachshund's beauty sleep

Aside from her adventurous nature, she equally loves her home comforts. Often found snoozing on someone’s legs, under a blanket or with her head on a cushion for that extra comfortable snooze, because a Queen Diva does need her essential luxuries. All Queens need their beauty sleep, and Bella lets her parents know when they’re staying up too late by trying to lead them to bed. Bella’s bed is next to her parents which she’ll happy jump into, but they often find she’s sneaked in beside them in the middle of the night when they wake up to her head on the pillows beside theirs!

Her birthday is 3 days after her brother’s birthday in June and she has celebrated her two birthdays with a joint birthday garden party. Bella is well and truly part of her family and here at Ginger Ted, we’re thrilled that she entered our Face of Christmas Competition.
